About these terms
These terms are an agreement between you and Tarmac Ltd ("Tarmac", "we", "us") for your use of the Tarmac app and website (the "service"). By creating an account or using the service, you accept them.
Our privacy policy explains how we handle your personal data.
Your account
- You must be at least 16 years old to use Tarmac.
- Give accurate details and keep your sign-in codes and password private.
- You're responsible for activity on your account. Tell us promptly if it's compromised.
- One person per account; don't impersonate anyone.
Riding safely
Tarmac is a navigation aid. You are always responsible for how you ride.
- Obey the Highway Code, road signs, speed limits and all traffic laws. Road conditions override anything the app shows.
- Don't handle your phone while riding. Set up routes and respond to prompts only when it's safe and legal, and mount your device securely.
- Routes, traffic, diversions, hazard reports and speed camera alerts may be incomplete, delayed or wrong. Use your own judgement.
- Group riding doesn't change individual responsibility. Ride your own ride — never follow the group into something unsafe.
- Make sure you're properly licensed, insured and your motorcycle is roadworthy.
Routes and diversions
Tarmac never reroutes you automatically. Diversions are suggestions that only apply if you confirm them, and they always aim to rejoin the planned route. The saved planned route is only changed by its organiser.
Routes imported from third-party services such as Google Maps are converted to our own route geometry and may differ from the original. Check imported routes before you ride.
Groups and roles
Groups can be public (anyone may join) or private (invite only). Organisers, leads and sweeps have extra controls, such as editing the route before a ride starts or starting and pausing a ride.
Organisers are responsible for the groups and rides they set up, including who they invite. Tarmac doesn't organise, supervise or insure rides and isn't a party to any arrangement between riders.
Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- use Tarmac to plan or promote illegal activity, including street racing;
- track, stalk or harass anyone, or share someone's location without consent;
- post content that is abusive, discriminatory, sexually explicit or unlawful;
- submit false hazard or speed camera reports, or spam groups;
- scrape, reverse engineer, overload or interfere with the service or its map data.
You can report members or content from within a group, and we'll review reports.
Your content
You keep ownership of routes, photos, messages and reports you add. You give us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, store and display that content to the people you share it with, only to run and improve the service. Hazard reports may be shown to other riders on the same roads. Don't post anything you don't have the right to share.
Maps and third-party services
Maps, routing, traffic and search are provided by third parties such as HERE and are subject to their own terms and attributions. We aren't responsible for third-party services or data, and features like safety cameras may not be available in every region.
Changes and availability
We're building Tarmac actively, so features may change, be added or be removed. We aim to keep the service running reliably but can't promise it will always be available, uninterrupted or error-free — including GPS or mobile signal during a ride.
Suspension and closing your account
You can delete your account at any time. We may suspend or close accounts that break these terms or put other riders at risk, and we'll tell you why where we can.
Our liability
Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, fraud, or anything else that can't be limited under UK law, including your statutory rights as a consumer.
Otherwise, we're not liable for losses that weren't foreseeable, for losses arising from your riding decisions or failure to follow the law, or for business losses. The service is provided for personal, non-commercial use.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. You can bring proceedings in the courts of England and Wales, or in Scotland or Northern Ireland if you live there.
